Expectation Setting

| Purpose: | To develop behavioral expectations that will serve as the cornerstone for feedback and conflict resolution, and will guide appropriate behaviors and interpersonal interactions
| | Duration: | 2-4 hours, dependent upon delivery method used
| | Overview: | Individual behaviors are a reality in life, but how can we make them work toward the success of the work group? Establishing the parameters of behavioral standards, or expectations, is critical to creating effective working relationships. Utilizing the company values as the guide, groups will define specific actions that will support those values and drive the group toward business success. Work groups develop their expectations of the leader, the leader develops his/her expectations of the group, and group members also develop expectations of each other. Participants then develop a process for handling situations when an individual does not meet the expectations.
| | Audience: | Any organizational employee, organizational group, or project team
| | Delivery: | CSI Consultant Led, Train-the-Trainer, and Off-the-Shelf
| | Materials: | Participants will receive a workbook that includes process development pages and a course evaluation form
| | Key Outcomes: | A written workgroup process which outlines acceptable behaviors within the workgroup and methods for communicating performance against those expectations to include:
- Specific expectations of behaviors in accordance with company values:
- Leader to workgroup
- Workgroup to leader
- All workgroup members
- Actions that portray those expectations
- Utilization of expectations as the basis for constructive feedback and conflict resolution
- What to do when expectations are not met
- Development of action plans when expectations are not met
- Resolving conflict with mutual consent from all involved parties
- Expectation review process to ensure continuous improvement
